Your reader must be at the center of you post in a way that your reader must feel that he is gaining something out of reading your post. This is the basic rule in marketing.

Worthwhile: Never let the reader feel that he has been tricked into reading your post or clicking on your blog link. You are thwarting all your long term chances of that reader coming back to your blog, in which case your blog rankings over the long term are in a dicey position.

Check for errors: Making grammatical and spelling errors can be a major put off for many readers. They may not visit your blog again simply because the errors that you make are too high. Always proof read your blog. A small typo here and there can be understood, but make sure you don’t make any major errors.

KISS: Or, Keep It Short and Simple. This is the thumb rule you must follow at all point. Long winding posts tend to get boring. And it may contain nothing that is interesting to the reader. Also no one has the time enough for your blog, no matter how well you write. In fact, your blog will be much more appreciated if you put your thoughts simply and shortly.

Interesting: Make sure that you hold your reader’s attention by making your posts snazzy. They must not be written in a tone that is tiring to read. Write short sentences and keep then crisp and precise. Always hit the point immediately in the course of your article.

Link: Keep linking the blogs you read to yours in order to build a network those people will be in turn encouraged to link you. Remember, linking increases rankings.

Keywords: Using the keywords of your posts frequently increases the search ability of that particular article of yours which in turn leads more people to visit your blog.

Clear Thoughts: Make sure you put your thought clearly before the readers so that it does not become tedious for them to read.

Colloquialism: You can write in a friendly tone. Avoid using too many slang words, but otherwise, if your post demands it, you can be colloquial.

Post Title: A catchy post title or headline is half your business solved. It can glue a reader to your post almost immediately. However, do not put misleading post titles, or you will lose creditability.
So, be consistent with your blog content and watch traffic flowing in to your blog!

Content is simply the stuff that makes up your site; similar to ingredients are the stuff that make up a recipe. Just as with any good recipe, ingredients have to be added in the right order and the right amounts for the recipe to come out just right; so it is with content on your website. You want to be able to create a site that has the right information, in the right quantities, at the right locations. Do this and you have conquered the world of CMS, otherwise known as Content Management System(s).

Using WordPress for your CMS is equivalent to picking the type of oven you are going to cook your recipe in. Some may prefer gas or electric ovens, others like the microwave. WordPress is your microwave choice when it comes to CMS. You are able to add content to your site quickly and efficiently, but may not be able to add all the bells and whistles. WordPress certainly has many opportunities, but just as you cannot cook all things in a microwave, you cannot make all applications work with WordPress…yet.

Advantages of WordPress as a CMS

The main advantage of using WordPress as a CMS is the ability to choose pages verses posts within your content. A page is a place where you will store static information, such as information about the company and owners, or a sign-up/contact form for visitors to your site. Pages are not meant to be changed on a regular basis; for that purpose it makes more sense to create a post.

Post pages can be created for either a single or multi-post format. You may include categories, archives, or multiple posts to be displayed. Their purpose is not to remain static, but to update on a continual basis. These post pages are perfect for bloggers.

Another benefit of WordPress is that you can have a static home page with post-pages behind it. The front page that your visitors will see when they login will always be the same, and then they can click within your site for updated information, articles, or blogs.

This brings us to another great feature with WordPress as a CMS. The site administration is very user friendly. As the site owner you may go into your control panel and assign different types of roles for individuals contributing to your site. If you have several writers you can enable their role allowing them to post articles only. Likewise, you may have several site administrators or site accounts.

WordPress also offers many widgets, plugins, and themes to help you create or brainstorm for your site content. Themes can be altered with the installation of plugins, making the site uniquely yours. Further, you can add other options to your site such as an online store, links to other sites, comment cards, or even polls.

Regardless of the type of site you choose to build, WordPress is your best choice for easy content management with the endless possibilities it provides.

Using WordPress has its many advantages from unlimited themes, plugins, and widgets to open source software and the incredible knowledge forums available on the Internet. The most exciting feature of WordPress though is its HTML free zone.

For individuals who are unfamiliar with HTML coding and more familiar with using Microsoft Word or MySpace; WordPress is a dream. Your website, regardless if it is used for personal blogs or business information and sales, is controlled in the administrative panel of WordPress. On that screen, the administrator has two options, to enter information via an HTML box or to utilize the user-friendly WYSIWYG feature.

For those not familiar with the term WYSIWYG it’s a term that was coined in the origination days of word processing. Prior to that time, what you entered on your word processor may not be what printed out. WYSIWIG was a term that was coined simply meaning What You See (while typing on screen) Is What You Get (when you print or publish your document).

WordPress uses the terminology “visual” to refer to the WYSIWIG editor in their system. In this format, what you see while typing is what you get when you post your article or news/information item.

In the administrator module there are two selections for entering information either visual or HTML. The HTML screen is available to use if you understand embedded coding such as <i> </i>, which simply tells the program to italicize the text that’s in between those two symbols.

In the visual editor, things are made much simpler for you. As you type, you can utilize the icons for changing your text to bold, italic, or change the sizes or color of your text. You can also add lists in bulleted or numbered form, or create a quotation text box which will shade and indent a specific portion of your text.

Typing Your Blog Entries Directly into WordPress

However most people do not use WordPress to enter their information, they instead use a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. This creates a whole new level of problems, since Microsoft Word embeds coding within your text and what you see is not always what you get. For instance, you may have your lists separated at the right line spacing, and indented just right with a flushed indentation for overflow; but when you paste it into WordPress all your formatting disappears and things don’t look anything like you imagined.

To help alleviate this issue, WordPress has added an icon for inserting your text from Microsoft Word. Simply click on the button and paste your information. The goal of inserting your text this way is that WordPress is supposed to recognize the formatting and follow all the rules you established in your original document. While this is a wonderful tool, it doesn’t always work as planned and formatting can be dropped or added within the document.

One workaround is to use the insert as plain text icon in WordPress. By pasting your text through this application, all the embedded codes are supposed to be stripped from your inserted text. At this point you can use the available WordPress icons and features to create the right look of your document in the visual tab.

WordPress also offers a preview key which acts similar to the print preview in word processing programs. By clicking this button, you are able to see what your document will look like when it actually posts to your site. This is a great tool to keep checking your document to make sure it is just right before you publish it for everyone to see.

These and many other features are standard within the WordPress administrative dashboard. They serve as a great benefit to the non-technical administrator or writer, enabling them to produce great documentation to their website without learning difficult HTML or other source coding.

Once you’ve downloaded and activated the plugin, simply customize your backup settings according to your needs. This once daunting task becomes a thing of the past as WordPress Database Backup takes care of backing up your site for you.

1. All in One SEO Pack: Certainly you want to drive traffic to your site. So how do you get your site to appear in someone’s Internet searches? Use the All in One SEO Pack plugin. This plugin allows you to tweak your titles, item description, and add keywords to your posts to increase your rankings in search engines, which makes it easier for your readers to find you when they need you most.

1. Google Analytics for WordPress: So who is visiting your site, and what pages or sections are the most popular? Welcome to Google Analytics, an easy to install plugin that allows you to see into the minds of your visitors in a sense. This easy to use plugin helps you track traffic whether it is from the title of one of your posts, the article itself, or possibly even the comments field. You can even combine this plugin with Google Adsense.

Blogs have become a part of the internet technology craze and have become exceedingly
popular. They offer writers freedom of speech with an audience that is world wide. It
gives people a chance to use the world as a sounding board for their emotions, thoughts,
and areas of expertise. They also offer readers the chance to bond with writers who think
similarly to them.

There are also financial benefits to owning and/or writing a blog. Blogging sites can
often be set up with banner ads that provide the blogger with a percentage of profits
generated from that advertisement. Other ads can be set up that pay a blogger a certain
amount for each time a reader clicks on the advertisement from the blog’s page. This is
an easy way to make a little extra money by writing and doing something that you love.

Another advantage to starting your own personal blog is that it gives people a chance to
gain confidence in themselves as writers. When a writer gains a readership, it makes the
writer feel that his work is presentable and can prove to be beneficial to others. It is
always nice to know that what you are doing is good and is being appreciated, especially
when that praise comes from someone that you do not even personally know. Writing
regularly and receiving regular, positive feedback can help to increase a writer’s self
esteem. An increase in self esteem can then in turn also help a writer to actually become
better at the writing itself. As they learn what readers like, the content they produce
becomes more relevant and more applicable to those blog visitors.

A blog can also be used as a way for beginning writers to express themselves without true
fear of rejection. Plenty of people are interested but have never made the leap into the
world of writing because they are afraid of being turned down or rejected by the public.
A blog allows them to write somewhat anonymously (or completely anonymously as they
desire) and not feel overly pressured or limited in that endeavor. No one really knows
who they are, so any negative comments do not necessarily affect them as personally.
They are free to express themselves and their thoughts without consequence. This can
help to strengthen self esteem as well and make them more comfortable with themselves
and with sharing their talents with the world.

Finally, blogs can be used as an amazing avenue for free advertising. Those who have a
limited budget can use blogs to promote products. It actually does not cost a singly
penny to write a blog posting and advertise a product. Readers can also instantly read
blog postings, making profit from the postings occur fairly quickly. It can be an great
marketing tool.

A very simplified definition of a blog as used today would be as follows:

Blog: a journal displayed over the internet that is updated often and is meant for display
to the public; this journal is most often displayed in reverse chronological order.

There are a number of different types of blogs. Each is slightly different in how it is
written or in the way in which it is delivered to the audience.

Media – includes Vlogs (video blogs), linklogs (link blogs), and photologs (blogs of
photographs).

Device – Some blogs are categorized by the type of program used to compose the blog.
Some are done strictly on computer programs while others are moblogs, or those written
on mobile devices such as phones or PDAs.

Genre – A final descriptive element of the blog is the genre or topic area in which the
blog galls. For example, blogs typically fall into one subject area such as politics, travel,
consumer products, and/or others.

Most blogs have the same general structure, although some will vary slightly. Below is a
typical blog structure:

Title: This is the ‘headline’ for the post.
Body: This is the main content of the post.
Permalink: This is a url that will direct readers to a full length article, if available. This
option is not always used, especially in personal blogs.
Post Date: This tells the date and time of publication.
Comments: These are remarks that are left by readers regarding the post.
Categories (Tags): This is usually a listing of previous articles that are related to the
current article.
Trackbacks (pingback): These are links to other sites that are relevant to the particular
blog entry.

Now that you know what a blog is and how one is set up, how can you create one of your
own? Most blogs that are online today are fairly easy to maintain and do not require the
use of a web developer. They are pretty easy to navigate by any normal computer user.
Web applications can help you to easily create or make changes to your blog and to
promote your site to potential readers.

So what is a web application? It is something that can be used by regular internet users
via a network such as the World Wide Web. They are easy to use and require little
installation and memory space to run. With these applications, bloggers can make
updates from just about anywhere in the world as long as there is internet access. This
allows bloggers to easily maintain their blog without having to host their own server.
Many systems suc as Ecto, Elicit, and Blogger let maintain without even being online at
the time. Users can compose or edit without internet connection and simply connect to
publish the blog. Other applications allow a combination of blog and wiki, called bliki.
